Updates

So sorry for lack of updates. Here's what I've been up to recently..

Said goodbye to xiao rong who is back in Taiwan now. I probably won't be seeing her anytime soon. Not this year cos I'm not going back to Taiwan. Next year maybe? I hope. I wish! This year, Winnie and mum are going back sometime in July. Lucky Winnie. I haven't been to Taiwan since 6 years ago? I miss the food. I miss all the food!!! I miss shopping!! Oh yea I also miss my grandpa. And aunty..uncle..cousins. hahahhaa...

This was taken last week; a funny night out with some old friends. I wonder is it obvious that we look and act like a couple? Only yesterday, one of dad's friends asked dad: is Amy single? And daddy said: I don't know if the guy she is with all the time; is he her bf or not?! Funny. After Valentine's Day, he should have no doubts now. rite cs? :P Speaking of this, I had the best Valentines. But that is another post altogether.

Moving on. We had steamboat at home for Chap Goh Meh. The 15th day of Chinese New Year.

Full moon on the 15th.

Manual self timer..

I normally don't eat steamboat outside cos...I just don't like it. But at home, its ok. The best thing about steamboat/hotpot at home is the sauce! Its some kind of Taiwanese barbecue sauce and egg yolk. Just scoop up some of the sauce, and add in one egg yolk. Separate the egg white. This is what it looks like:

Looks gross but tastes good! It goes really well with hotpot cos most of the food is quite tasteless. And the sauce is a bit spicy and tangy. No idea how to describe it. This is how it looks like after you mix it together..

I know what it looks like lar..but it does tastes good..

After dinner ritual on chap goh meh is opening all the hampers. This year we (i mean dad) received five hampers.

Doesn't matter that I probably won't be eating most of the food. Opening them makes us happy. Most people give hampers as gifts during chinese new year cos it looks better I guess. Let's say you get to choose between receiving a box of oranges or a pretty hamper? Most would choose the pretty hamper.

One ladies night at Senso. It was Hilton's 21st anniversary in Kuching. Dress code: PINK. But I know I'm more to purple..

Oh yea. A note for Shirley! Hey bitch remember my Punky Fish sweater I bought in London for 35 pounds but I hardly wore it when I was in London? You used to scold me for not using it. Haha. Look!! I wear it at work now everyday!!

At least its not a total waste! =)

CNY Part 2

These are the rest of photos from Day 2 - 5 of chinese new year 2009. Day 5 falls on a Friday and work starts on Monday. On the first day back of office, many of them brought leftover cakes and cookies to share. Nice. I didn't though cos there are still people visiting my house.

This was taken on the 2nd day at Uncle Richard's house. Dad and his friends were having Glenfiddich 18 years whiskey with water. They poured the first glass of whiskey water for us. After finishing it, winnie went out and helped herself to some more whiskey. But she decided to add coke instead, cos not used to drinking it with water.

As soon as they (dad and his friends, around 5 of them) saw her, they started exclaiming, half scolding: why add coke?? you'll only get drunk more quickly you know?? Add plain water! This is 18 years whiskey!! Why add coke? This is like taking a Ferrari and mixing it with some lousy tyres etc...etc..non stop. Actually we've been hearing this for years. But we're just not used to drinking whiskey with water. Sorry!! :)

My parents and their friends have a routine everyday. The first five days are fully booked. Each one of my dad's friends open house one day. This year, the first day, I stayed home and waited for people to come visiting. In the morning, entertained relatives and cousins and mostly people from dad's office.

It's routine actually. We wake up, shower, put on make up, dress up nicely then go to their house. Eat first; normally they call catering, and then try their cakes and biscuits, then start drinking, and gambling, talking etc. Its the same at every house.

This photo below was on the 3rd day at Uncle Johnny's house. Winnie happy with her cheesecake(s).

Her face looks red but she only had a glass of whiskey coke. No effect on her at all seriously..

This was the fourth day at our house. Our open day. Damn busy the whole day; our house was filled with people everywhere. Mum cooked some dishes, and we ordered catering as well.

Winnie's group of friends playing mahjong in the study room.

My job after serving their drinks, helping mum with the food, and making small talk was to get rid of the flies in the car park!

Oh, and me.

This is another group at the dining table..

Dominoes issit? Pai kau in chinese. No idea how to play this..I watched them but I didn't understand. Seems like only 4 players can play in a game. No idea.

Winnie's group of friends..

I just realized I haven't taken much photos this cny. And we didn't take a family portrait again this year. Damn.

Our little prince was left outside in the kitchen most of the time during cny. Can't let him in cos of the house guests. Some more, he's afraid of the fireworks. Poor thing. He lost weight over cny. He's normally so pampered by us all that he refuses to eat when he's kept in the kitchen. Haha..

Cs bought some dog biscuits back from HK for ah boi. He said they're not cheap some more. What if he refuses to eat them? Luckily ah boi almost always eats everything. If you tempt him in the correct way, i.e, break them into small pieces, pretend that you're having whatever you're going to give him (pretend to munch), and voila. He'll eat!

The last resort is: give him a piece of cuttlefish (his favorite) and after that he'll eat pretty much everything...

Chinese New Year 2009 Part 1

I shall blog about my Chinese new year in photos. In parts. This is Part 1. Mostly taken on Chinese New Year Eve and the First Day only.

I'm so sleepy. Photos speak for themselves anyway. A picture is worth a thousand words. And I'm out of words right now.

Debris. Aftermath.

First day. Seems traditional to wear a cheongsam on the first day of cny.

Yes I am aware I have a lot of photos of myself in my short cheongsam with the very high slit.

I only wore this at home anyway, not out anywhere. Damn hard to sit down properly without showing my ass or undies.

Mum and siaw rong, who is going back in two weeks. Time flies man. She's been here a month already..Speaking of this, I'm going to Damai this weekend! Yeah baby. Long time I haven't been swimming or to the beach.

Everyone meet Eli. She is the best!

Everyone meet Kevin in his samfoo. Is that what you call that? The male version of cheongsam. Heh..

Me driving nowadays is a rare sight. I'm used to my own personal chauffeur. Hahaa..thanks baby. =)

At Amelie's place..

Lion dance. I'm so lazy to explain right now. This was taken at my dad's friend's house. It was damn huge ok. Here let me show you part of the garden where I was sitting:

This one photo is sufficient to show how huge his place is. Look at that palm tree. There's much more behind me..This is just a small part of his front porch. Damn.

Off to bed. I will update next time.

Dinner

Earlier tonight we went on our traditional Chinese new year dinner at a restaurant to have yu san. I don't know pinyin but that's how mum pronounce it. This is the yu san I'm talking about:

We choose a restaurant to go to every year to have this cos dad says its a must especially since he's doing business etc. Some kind of pantang i think. Also before you eat the yu san, everyone around the table has to stand up and use the chopsticks to fling the food around. Hahaha..I'm lousy at explaining. Basically, you just have to mix the food around, mix it well and fling it higher.

Mixing the yu san.

I think dad lost some weight over chinese new year. Oh ya...did I mention before mum and dad both quit smoking? Pretty amazing, I never thought they would both be able to do it. Anyway both of them gained alot of weight after quitting. Dad said he went through 4 packs of Dunhill Menthol Lights per day, while mum smoked one pack each day. Amazing that they both managed to quit after what 30, 40 years? Cool...wish I can quit alcohol too. Heh. But I don't really want to now..Maybe when I'm pregnant in the future..

Sorry I digressed. Back to topic. Sorry winnie's face is blur. But everyone here has seen enough photos of winnie eh. Hahahahhaa...

Winnie's cute furry pink mobile pouch.

This year's dinner was a bit different. None of us knew that dinner consisted of one main course only excluding the yu san. Mum only said dinner tonight at lok thian. The RM399 dinner. So I expected the usual soup first, the maybe some chicken, fish, veg etc. But no. We got this:

This is the main course for the night. For 7 people. It was a huge pot that was layered with all sorts of rich food such as those huge oyster mushroom, prawns, scallops, abalone, shark fin, sea cucumber etc...

Oh before I forget. There were some big abalones in the pot. When dad was scooping some food into winnie's bowl, he started by filling in fishballs, mushrooms etc..When he saw the abalone, he calmly scooped it up and instead of depositing it into winnie's bowl, he put it on mum's plate. Winnie thought ok, nvm. Should have some more. But by the time everyone finished serving, winnie was left with nothing.

I could tell she was a bit beh song. But she kept it to herself...untill..in the car... siaw rong them asked winnie: why didn't u eat much? She burst out: cos i don't really like the fishball and dad keep taking it for me. then I don't eat yam, i don't like duck, or the pork. I can't eat prawn cos i'm coughing. I want the abalone but dad took it to mum instead of giving me. she went on ranting while everyone burst out laughing. She was so indignant that dad gave it to mum.. then of course mum and dad laughed like shit and said tomoro we cook abalone for her larr...

No one knew she minded that much. cos when I took the first bowl, I saw there was a lot in the pot still...Winnie actually told me: in case I don't get to eat any, leave me a bite ok. don't finish it. Let me try. But i didn't lar..i finish eating cos I really saw a lot in the pot. I never knew winnie never tried it, cos mum sometimes cook it at home, but she makes it spicy so winnie never tried it before so she was curious and wanted to try just now. Heh..

Anyway dinner was different this year but once is enough really. I don't think its really worth it ler. I'd rather go to some Japanese or Italian buffet and stuff myself with food cos at least I'd feel I ate enough stuff. People like Kevin think its a waste of money.

Camwhore starts. Take 1.

Take 5.

Take 10.

The only way I can get ah boi to take a photo with me is to open the fridge then he sits quietly beside me. =)
