Spent the whole day trying to book air tickets today. Back to London. I finally found out my convo date Its on the 10th of July. So far, everything is fully booked. I have to be prepared to pay much more. Nifer's parents got RM 3,600 for Thai Airways, and Willie's mum got RM 3, 500 for Cathay Pacific. How do they do it? The cheapest offer i got is RM 3, 900 on Royal Brunei, some more i'm on the waiting list. Damn..

I'll try calling more tour agents tomorrow. Wish me luck.

The Painted Veil

This story is based on the novel by W. Somerset Maugham. It is set back in 1925. A young London couple; the lady is selfish and spoilt. Her husband is a Doctor and bacteriologist who is based in China. Dr. Walter Fane (Edward Norton) works in the government lab in Shanghai then. His wife, Kitty Fane (Naomi Watts) does not love him and only married him to get far away from her mother. In China, Kitty had an affair with a very important man who is married, but he is only playing with her. There is an outbreak of Cholera in a rural part of China. The doctor volunteered to head the group and he told his wife that she has 2 choices. Either she join him there, or he wants a divorce on the grounds of adultery and naming the guy in public. She chose to go with him.

Throughout this movie, i was so disturbed. The movie shows how people die of cholera. Cholera is highly contagious and death is caused by dehydration. How to dehydrate? Vomiting non stop water until all your fluid is gone. These patients have to lie on special beds, with a hole on their bottom, because they will have diarhoea nonstop too until all fluid is gone from the body. Then they die eventually. Usually within 3 days. I watched the hospital, the deaths. Because they were in rural china back in 1925 and foreigners were not welcomed in China, they had an unusually hard time there. Eventually, the doctor caught cholera himself. By then, his wife was pregnant already and they both had already made up with each other. He died in the end. She went back to London and gave birth to a son.

This movie shows how a couple with a broken relationship learns some valuable lessons in life, love and sacrifice in this romantic novel.

Ratatouille

Most people have probably seen this movie already. I've put off watching this movie for ages since it involves a rat, and most people know how i'm terrified of rats, hamsters, or anything related to the rat family. But, after streamyx went haywire today and i'm left with not much movie choices, i finally decided to watch it.
Its about a rat (Remy) who dreams of becoming a chef. He is gifted with the sense of smell and taste. His father and family don't support him. But, one day when he gets lost from his family, he decided to help out this garbage guy (Linguini) in a restaurant. Remy decided to save the soup that Linguini was making and it turned out to be delicious. Anyway, to cut a long story short, Linguini took over te restaurant and Remy helped him. Everyone found out in the end that Linguini had no talent, and it was a rat that was making all the delicious food.In the end though, Remy, Linguini, Colette and the food critic opened a new bistro.

Overall a nice movie but watching all those rats. Man.. My chair kept inching away from the screen. It was terrible. Anyway, what if Remy dies, then who will run the bistro? Rats don't have long lives right? But its just a cartoon. We're just meant to enjoy it and not ask so many questions.

New Year

London Eye on Fire

New Year Eve Countdown on the banks of River Thames, in front of London Eye and Big Ben.

It's 2008. I should set some New Year Resolutions for myself. I wonder if i'll stick to it. First and foremost, i resolve to drink less and eat more healthily. I will complete my dissertation before i return to Kuching. That's about it. I can't plan my life when i go back to Kuching. Some things in life are unpredictable. Anyway, i might change my mind about things. Not coming back to London though. There is nothing left for me to come back for. At home, i have my family. But i don't have you... You are going to be far away from me.

Which reminds me, i have to add another resolution. I resolve to remember forever every path we have walked through, every song we've listened to together, every touch and every kiss we shared, and oh god. My heart hurts. No tears coming out. But i felt as if an invisible hand just squeezed my heart. hard. I felt the same when i looked at winnie's friendster photo. That photo of mum and winnie. It hurts to look at them, and i couldn't stop the tears coming out. i miss home.. But when i'm home, i'm going to miss you so......... If both of us are longing to see each other after one week apart, how am i going to spend 2 years without u? Looks like a gloomy end to 2007. And i wonder what 2008 will bring for me?
