Continuation of Bangkok day 2

OK. My birthday is over and done with for another year. No more excuses to not update my blog, cook dinner or to work on my treadmill. =.= Yah, I'm serious. I have been seriously slacking these past few weeks days.

Anyhoo! Its back to regular programming for now.

So, these photos are still from the second day of Bangkok. I knew it mi, knew it! Its almost a month after the trip and I'm still on the 2nd day! Do you realize i like to talk/scold myself on my blog. Zzz..I should stop doing that. Gets confusing mi.

Moving on. Moving on. After Grand Palace, we left to take a boat/sampan to cross the river. It was all pre-arranged and included in our tour. We wanted the full tourist experience. Almost. Kind of.

Jeffrey (our guide) led the way from Grand Palace, past the markets and back roads to reach this jetty. Sort of. No, wait actually it was just a small wobbly platform. Kinda scary but also so cool cos it was fun and a new experience.

Dunno got crocs in the river or not hahah. No lah but there was a lot of big fishes though. 

This photo does not do it justice really. Those are very big fishes. Like those you go out to sea to catch. Apparently our guide Jeffrey said that because its close to the temple compounds, people are not allowed to catch/kill them. So they grow bigger and bigger. I forgot the name of those fishes. Jeffrey mentioned it. Batin, I think.

When mum heard, she said something along the lines of: wahhh your dad would be so happy to see this. The market sells them for how much per kg etc etc..

Finally on the boat!! Winnie and mum got the pleasant seat of sitting in front, where the spray is more! Hahah I'm referring to the dirty river water. As the boat speeds along, the water splashes all over. I tried to take photos but was so afraid my phone or camera got wet, so these are all I dared to take. 

Got to say again: it was such a good experience. We were sitting very low in the boat, and it was speeding along so fast. You could see the fishes jumping up and down beside the boat, and the view was awesome too.

We arrived at our destination, which was Wat Arun. Correct me if I'm wrong. I had to check back to emails sent back and forth with our tour guide to confirm. We didn't go in anyway. None of us wanted to walk up soo many steps in the heat.

Cs has already been there before with his family. And us three girls were lazy. It was so hot and we were already sweating buckets by then. 

So we stayed outside to have some coconut juice! Best choice ever. Why climb steps when there are cool, fresh coconuts for only 20 baht? Pfft.

Winnie and I also decided to rent some costumes to wear and pose around. Mum initially said no. But after she saw us both dressed up, she joined in the fun as well hahaha..

Btw, it was all just long pieces of cloth and they pin everything into place.

We suck at posing. All we do are try to attack each other with them nails. Hahahh idiots. Cs, who was taking our photos laughed and said that our poses all the same. Me strangling Winnie or Winnie attacking me. Heheh..it was good fun!

Finally proper photo of us three. Glad that we did this then. Really good memories looking back now. 

Those nails would come in very handy in a fight. Come to think of it, the necklace, hat and the belt too.

Cs has himself a Thai wife. Hahah poor thing carrying all our bags in addition to his own.

We took another boat. Bigger one this time, with proper roof. I think we are going to look for our van and driver. He drove to meet us at our destination. 

Happy us on holiday. 

Mum and Winnie were too lazy to bring out an umbrella. When we were packing for Bangkok, they wanted to bring an umbrella each. I convinced them to take one umbrella to share between them. When they arrived in Bangkok, both didn't bring their umbrella out pun. 

I did cos the freak inside says so. I know what you're thinking. When you say you, you mean Cs, not you, right? But noo, it was me!! Confused yet?

Winnie brought her trusty fan though. That was wise. Btw, those fans are on sale thorough out Bangkok. Easily available for those who want them.

Our next destination was Erawan Shrine, or also known as the Four Faced Buddha. This shrine is apparently famous. A lot of HK stars come to pray here, because the Four Faced Buddha will make your wishes come true! Just Google it and watch the results that come out. I did my research before going and decided that if we were going to pray, this was the one to go!

This was the only photo I managed to take. As you reach the place, there will be stalls selling flowers and joss sticks. When you arrive, the place will likely be crowded, and people praying, kneeling on the floor. There are also people singing/chanting to the music.

First thing to do was buy the candles, joss sticks and flowers. I forgot how much they cost. Not pricey, don't worry. Then copy the locals. We apparently had to pray to each Face, and put the candles, joss sticks and candles on each side. Just mimic the locals, can't go wrong eh.

After that, our guide dropped us off at Siam Paragon! We went there for lunch at the food court. Slightly more pricey than at Terminal 21. Had awesome takoyaki. Basically just fried/grilled octopus inside. Very nice.

After Siam Paragon, we walked to Central World. The shopping centers are all quite near to each other, within walking distance! Our driver left and came to pick us up later in the evening.

Winnie had to take picture with the sign. So there you go yao.

Tuk tuk. Really tempted to take a trip but heard too many stories about how they rip off tourists. Boo..plus there were four of us so can't fit into a tuk tuk too.

We went to Platinum mall to shop. Platinum mall is a wholesale mall selling mainly clothes, clothes and more clothes. Girls should definitely visit. Not much guys stuff. 

Spent a long time at this accessories stall. Bought a bracelet and anklet. Happy me. Mum and Winnie also bought necklaces, bracelets and anklets. 

If you buy more, can haggle. If buy 2 or more things, you should be able to get wholesale price. Just keep haggling whatever you do.

Later our driver came to pick us up and brought us over to Baiyoke Sky Hotel, which if I'm not mistaken, is Bangkok's tallest building. 

We went there for the buffet and enjoy the view. Price was ok, quite reasonable. About RM 70? I don't remember, don't ask me. They have birds nest soup. Look that bowl below. No idea how much birds nest is inside, but it was yum all the same. 

Winnie's plate of desserts that looks good but tastes horrible. Looks can be so deceiving eh?

We were rushing to leave soon after so I couldn't wait till dark to take a proper photo of the view boo. So had to settle for taking photo of the lift. Da fuck?! But look at how they skip some numbers.

Had to take 2 lifts to the top floor. 

I managed to take a sunset photo from the 77th floor. Nice view. Would look better at night though, me thinks.

And that's all for now. Update more next time. We were rushing off to watch ah gua show. Gasp!! Ah gua is ladyboy show. You know they're men, but they are gorgeous! Show you photos next time!

It's my birthday today!!

Because my birthday falls on a Monday, I spent the past few days and nights celebrating my birthday. As a result, on the day of (which is just starting btw), I am all birthday-ed out. Haha..

No such word as birthday-ed out is there? Don't care, its my birthday!

Heheh that has been my staple phrase all weekend by the way. "It's my birthday!" Best line ever. Only to Cs though. :) I still have about 23 hours of using it till next year. :D

 These were my birthday nails from Winnie. They are stickers and you have to file and cut off the excess. Looks like a lot of work actually. But lucky me. I have Winnie cos its my birthday! :) Ok lah to be fair, she did do manicures for me before too. And pedicures. And pluck my eyebrows. Thanks yao!

That photo in wedding parties/anniversaries is starring Cs and I. We be famous after that. Hahah. Quite a lot of people have mentioned that to us already by now. We still haven't been to see it yet though. And no, we can't sue or anything because the photo rights belong to Hollywood Bridal anyway. Oh well. 

On the bright side, it means people actually think its a good photo right, that's why they chose it. I mean, Hollywood should have plenty of brides to choose from as well as real models, but they chose plain ol me. Yay! Or nay?

Btw, while we were taking photos on the cruise that day, plenty of other people were taking photos of us. No asking permission at all. Or respecting our privacy. Nada! As our photographer was directing us on our posing, everyone else took photos. Actually I didn't mind lah cos we were happy that day. Only very embarrassing cos kissing/hugging in public is bad enough, but to be in the spotlight (pun) is worse.

This is the only photo I have from my birthday weekend. All other photos are in Winnie's phone. That woman better hurry up and send them to me. 

Till I have the other photos, then I blog about my weekend. Actually, I don't feel that much excited about my birthday this year. I feel more settled. I care about different things now. Other things make me excited now, instead of thinking of birthday presents, and how and where to celebrate.

Even my birthday wish is different this year. One year, I wished so hard to be happy, just be happy. This year, I feel like I have everything I want already. I have my family, I have a husband who loves me, family in laws who treat me well and are so casual (seriously I'm so thankful).

But I think what matters most is how I feel now. I feel so lucky. I may not be able to go on Euro trips yet, or have a fancy car, but I'm thankful with what I have now. I already feel loved and so blessed.

So thank you to all of you who made me feel this way.

So, I just registered online to donate my organs after I die. Do it too. Don't need to hesitate. There are so many more pros than cons. I read about it first from KY. Thanks!

Pros: Save live(s). Plurals. Can save/change many lives with your heart, liver, skin, eyes, etc. What are you going to do with them after you die anyway? Leave it in the coffin to rot ah.

Cons: Some superstituous belief cos your grandma/parents don't like it.

There is a lot more I want to say but I'm in the office now yikes. So yea.

To tell the truth, I have wanted to do this ever since I watched Grey's Anatomy years ago.

In the series, it is always hard for the doctors to convince the dying patient's relatives to donate organs. So, be sure to discuss this with your family before doing this.

Or do it like me. I didn't tell my parents haha. Told my husband though. That should be good enough. :)

On this Saturday night...

Supposed to go out for dinner at 7! Stomach is growling and Cs is at work still. It's 7:27pm.

Err..I woke up at 11:30am this morning. It's Saturday and still a.m. Good enough. Cooked maggi for myself and added too much water..tastes horrible.

I assure u this does NOT happen often!! I'm a maggi guru man! Grr..

Then cleaned the house while watching Olympics. Took a nap at 4:30 cos cleaning the house is tiring Hahahah..#defensive

Weekend is about catching up on sleep anyway. #leavemealone.

Woke up at 6 and started getting ready for dinner, which brings us back to now..

Ok bye! Have a good Saturday! After dinner I think we'll be going to karaoke! Gulps.

People actually have to hear me sing again. God gave mercy on their poor souls.

Argh..food deprivation is making me silly. Not that I normally am not.

Grand Palace is Grand plus Maltese for SALE!!

So today I'm going to share some photos from the Grand Palace, Bangkok. We engaged a tour package for two full days and night. So, our tour guide, driver and van came to pick us up from the hotel.

It was soo worth it. So nice not to worry about looking for directions, whether we are going the right way or not, how to communicate etc.. Some more, our van was large and comfy! Could easily accommodate up to 8 people. 

Too bad our driver took till the last night to tell us our van came with a built in tv, and massaging seats!! =.= Ahh never mind. Tv would be Thai no doubt, and massaging seats didn't work for my seat either. Also, the constant movement would only make me car sick. So oh well. 

The back row of the van was totally unused. Can stretch out to sleep at the back also can. Awesome possum. Not that I did. Haha I fell asleep in my own seat. I think we all fell asleep at some point. The infamous Bangkok jams, the cool air conditioning, and the nonstop walking left us all tired. Plus we woke up early every morning and slept late. 

Anyway. Enough of the van. Moving on to Grand Palace.

They have a strict dress code. No shorts and no skirts above the knees. No sleeveless tops. Sandals are ok.

Applies for both men and women.

If you show up in either one of the prohibited items, boo hoo, have to go rent sarongs, pants, and button down shirts.. Winnie and I rented sarongs. Actually you only have to leave a deposit; the rental is free.

Matching sarongs and matching bags now. A lot of Chinese tourists showed up in long maxi dresses. Smart. Must be their tour guide told them. It was SO HOT that day. And you know how I am in the sun, right? I brought an umbrella, I shielded my face and fanned myself with the brochure, and I darted here and there out of the sun. So yea, suffice to say I wanted to get away asap!

Hahha...but you should go though. Grand Palace really is amazing. It was so grand and everywhere was glittering with gold. Magnificent buildings and structures. They also have a temple (or a few?) inside for you to pray. We did go in as well. Follow the locals and kneel down and bow. We copied how others prayed. 

It was early in the morning..about 10 am? But the place was packed with tourists!! A lot of tour groups came in buses so the place was crowded and noisy. Lucky that its huge, plenty of space to walk around and admire the buildings.

Grand eh? There are a lot of buildings inside and if you wanted to visit all of them, it could take up more time. We didn't though. It was too hot to properly enjoy them. But lucky it was such fine weather too lah. So imma quit whining about the heat. Heh. It only rained once when we were in Bangkok. And that was only a short, light rain when we were in Chatuchak.

Cs was the one taking most of the photos in my camera actually throughout the trip. :) Thank you.  The photos that are edited and have a frame on them are photos from my phone.

Hahaha I had my hand full with my umbrella and brochure what. And my phone. Plus it was hard to walk in the sarong. Don't know if I tied it too tight or wrong way or what but I had to take tiny steps. Grr..normally that should not be difficult, I know, but with hoards of tourists, you don't want to walk slowly and get pushed along.

Oh yes, this was at the temple inside the grounds I was talking about. After praying, we came out and saw all the other tourists taking the flower and dipping it into water, then touching it onto their arms.

 THEN, we realized you had to touch it to your head. THEN, we realized that we were dipping in the wrong plate all along. We were supposed to dip the flower in that big golden bowl, NOT the plate where mum and Winnie's hands were. That was supposed to be where you put the flower back. HAHA. Oh well. We had a good laugh at that.

Mum, Cs and Jeffrey (our tour guide for the day). He speaks mandarin and some English to us when he can't find the mandarin words for it. His mandarin is not fluent but we still got along fine. Very nice guy and helpful. 

He explained about the history, architecture, the sights along the way, taught us some Thai words. Was patient with us, walking along with us, making small conversation. If you need a tour guide in Bangkok, I'll be happy to give you the email for them.
